Hello community members!

Future Earth launched the Open Network in October of 2016 with the aim of connecting, engaging and simulating collaboration within the sustainability research community.  We hope that members have found this to be a useful tool.

We continually strive to improve the Open Network and would love to hear your thoughts. What do you like about the Open Network?  What could be improved?

Any replies or comments would be greatly appreciated.  You can also message me privately.

Hi Laurel,

Thanks for taking the time to ask for feedback. I am new to the network but I have found it rather interesting. I like the fact there are different topical communities as it really helps target one's key interests. I also feel that many different things are shared, not just in terms of research, but also in terms of opportunities that may be of interest to a great deal of people.
However, I guess I have found it hard to find people to connect with. Although there are suggestions, I feel they might not be that relevant sometimes. I guess I would encourage you to deepen your efforts on this, on the ways to create connections between members. The forum part is great, but I think maybe the individual connections could be improved.

Thanks again for reaching out.

Best regards,

Hi @Marielle Papin-Manjarrez,

Thank you for your comments!  I assume that you are referring to the "People You May Know" section found in your profile > My Connections > Contacts, correct?  This section is designed to connect you to people who are similar to you according to their profile.

I understand that this functionality may not be appropriate in some instances, for example if you are a physical scientist looking for social scientists.  In such instances, I would suggest you try searching through the directory and reaching out to individuals directly.

If you feel that there are other information that can be added to members' profile to help create connections, please let us know!

Hi Laurel,

Thank you for your answer. This is indeed what I am talking about. I understand what you say but I do think there might be room for improvement regarding the suggestions. They seem maybe a bit too wide sometimes. Regarding the directory, I have found myself wondering what key words I could use to find people. Maybe adding a few categories, like the organisation they come from or their status (practitioner, early career scholar, etc.). Again, I haven't been on the network for long, so maybe I just need to figure out how to best use it!
Anyway, I do think this is a great tool and I hope it will keep being successful!

Thanks again,

Marielle
