‚ÄčKathleen Galvin is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology, and Senior Research Scientist at the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory at Colorado State University, USA. She is also Director of The Africa Center http://africacenter.colostate.edu/ . She has conducted long-term social-ecological research in the rangelands of Africa and has conducted research in Kazakhstan and Mongolia. She is interested in issues of human land use, conservation, climate variability and change, food security and resilience and adaptation strategies. Her current research explores community based conservancies as innovative systems for social-ecological sustainability. She has also examined the importance of spatial complexity and the costs of land fragmentation for people around the world. Galvin is currently a lead author for the global assessment on biodiversity and ecosystem services team (IPBES) whose goal is to strengthen the science-policy interface on biodiversity and ecosystem services
