    Dear all,

Hi, this is my first post here.

I am the developer of OpenLitterMap.com - Open Data on Plastic Pollution with Blockchain Rewards (Littercoin).

OpenLitterMap is the first project to apply blockchain proof-of-work mining principles to the production of geographic information. By doing citizen science, users earn Littercoin. Littercoin and open data are both permissionless.

For more info: see my paper

    https://opengeospatialdata.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s40965-018-0050-y

    and this blog post

    https://www.publicsectordigest.com/article/embracing-open-data-plastic-pollution

I began researching litter in 2009 for a BA in Geography. Since then, I have achieved x2 M.Sc., one in GIS & Remote Sensing in University College Cork, Ireland, and another M.Sc. in Coastal & Marine Environments at the National University of Ireland, Galway. During my second M.Sc. (2014-15) I studied plastic pollution extensively for the year, read all of the various reports at that time, and found all of them to be largely inadequate. Therefore, I decided to develop OpenLitterMap.com which finally launched in April 2017.

I am looking for various partners and collaborators to apply for some grant money.

In particular I am looking for

    - Developers! (PHP, JavaScript)
    - Local Authorities (save money, improve action)
    - Environmental Institutions (improve policy, improve allocation of resources)
    - Universities (research, education, outreach, data collection)
    - NGO's (lobbying, research, outreach, capacity building)
    - Data companies / startups (business, consult)
    - Businesses / startups (attract new customers by accepting Littercoin for any purpose at your discretion)

    Some more links:

There are 2 types of maps:

    openlittermap.com/global

    and the city level grid:

    https://openlittermap.com/maps/The Netherlands/Zuid-Holland/Wassenaar/map

Anyone can download all of the data for free, at any layer, simply by ending the URL with /download

    https://openlittermap.com/maps/The Netherlands/Zuid-Holland/Wassenaar/download

    https://openlittermap.com/maps/The Netherlands/Zuid-Holland/download

    https://openlittermap.com/maps/The Netherlands/download

    https://openlittermap.com/maps/Ireland/download - etc
If anyone is interested, please get in touch here or at info@openlittermap.com

    Many thanks,

    Seán

    Dear Sean,
it is not very clear to me what exactly you are looking for. You would like to hand in a project proposal, but for doing what exactly?
Our group (Physical chemistry and polymer science, VUB, within university of Brussels) could help in characterization of polymers (litter in general), but I don't know if that is what you are looking for.
    Kind regards,
    Hubert Rahier

    Hi Hubert,

    Many thanks for your message.

At this stage I don't know if your expertize is what I am looking for as a collaboration, but your advice on my categorisation schema could be useful if you have an opinion to share.

If you think you can make use of the free and open data at OpenLitterMap you are welcome to do so !

For example, here is all of the data from Belgium - there is not much, feel welcome to fill it up !

    https://openlittermap.com/maps/België%20-%20Belgique%20-%20Belgien/download

If you log in, you will see how it is listed by category / behaviour

    for example

    https://openlittermap.com/maps/United%20States%20of%20America/Massachusetts/Boston/map

    Best wishes,

    Seán
