The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Initiative, the Global Network for Observations and Information in Mountain Environments (GEO-GNOME), aims at connecting GEO Members, Flagships, Initiatives and Community Activities with links to Earth Observations (EO) (in-situ, remote sensing) in mountain regions, as well as relevant research institutions, projects and mountain observation networks to facilitate and coordinate access to environmental and social-ecological data and information on global change in mountains.
GEO-GNOME is jointly coordinated and co-led by the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI) and the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate, National Research Council of Italy (ISAC-CNR), and receives financial contribution from the Swiss Development Agency and Cooperation (SDC), with other in-kind contributions and support from MRI, ISAC-CNR, the GEO Secretariat and GEO-GNOME contributors and participants.
The GEO-GNOME Project Officer works closely with the co-leads to implement the 2020-2022 GEO-GNOME implementation plan, with a vision and innovative spirit that promotes collaboration and community development in the domain of EO data and information on global change in mountains. The role is a 60-80% FTE position based at the MRI Coordination Office at the University of Bern, under a fixed-term contract (up to 3 years and renewable, dependent on funding), and subject to the regulations of the Civil Service of the Canton of Bern. The position will be available from 1 February 2020. Other start dates can be negotiated.
