It is a great pleasure to announce that Future Earth has appointed a new Executive Director. Dr. Amy Luers has accepted the position and will step into the role in September 2017. Amy will be based in Montreal. Amy has a broad reach. Some of you may know her from the early days of Future Earth when she served on the Engagement Committee, others may know her from her work as the lead for climate adaptation efforts at the US White House Office of Science and Technology Policy under the Obama Administration, or for her work at a small tech group called Google, where she developed a little thing called Google Earth Engine. Still others might know Amy from her work standing up Agua Para La Vida (Water for Life), or her work at the Skoll Global Threats Fund.
It is truly hard to over-emphasize how good the fit here is, or how excited we all are to work with Amy moving forward. Future Earth works to connect a massive set of science disciplines with an even larger group of partners in the private sector, public sector, and civil society. Amy has lived, worked, and led in all of these areas, and we are extremely fortunate to have her as our new Executive Director.
The full announcement is attached. Amy will be reaching out widely to the Future Earth community when she begins officially in September. For now, I wanted to extend her a warm welcome and to say that we are all looking forward to working with her to begin the next chapter of Future Earth.Welcome Amy!
