This global conference is the 21st biennial conference of the The International Society for Ecological Modelling (ISEM) and looks to bring together scientists from all professions and applications that deal with the use of ecological models and systems ecology.
Unprecedented industrial development has been achieved in Korea, resulting in severe pollution and various environmental residue problems. Since the 1990’s efforts to restore the damaged ecosystems were greatly promoted along with national-scale surveys and recovery projects including Cheonggye-chon and Baekdu-daegan projects. Korea gives rise to a good example of societies striving to reestablish precious ecosystems through monitoring, conservation, and recovery.
Recently, new progress has been made in eco-evolutionary processes along with concurrent advancement of relevant fields in ecological sciences including whole genome sequencing, molecular ecology, mobile sensor networks, and mathematical biology. New approaches, equipped with more precision and robustness in responding to stressors, disturbances, and disasters in ecosystems, are being introduced in ecological modelling to realize stability, safety, and sustainability in ecosystems.
In this Meeting recent progress and future perspectives in new methodology including adaptation/evolution processes will be discussed, with the focus on linking society and academic fields in reality through multi-disciplinary approaches that include interfacing nature and humans, eco-evolutionary processes, and social collaborations.
