Bio, Publications

My work is rooted in Earth observation and sustainability science, particularly understanding coupled human-environment systems using interdisciplinary methods that combine biophysical and socio-ecological data.

I am interested in all aspects of land system science and biodiversity conservation with particular focus on climate impacts, land degradation, and species distribution mapping and monitoring. I use a variety of tools, including data from Earth-observing satellites, geographic information systems and statistical modeling, to understand human impacts on the terrestrial biosphere. I have been an avid birdwatcher since the age of 14, and as such I am interested in the conservation of Afro-Palearctic migrant bird species and the quality of their breeding and wintering habitats.

I have a PhD in Geobiosphere Science from Lund University in Sweden and an MSc in Geospatial Technologies from the University of M√ľnster in Germany and the New University of Lisbon in Portugal. I received my BSc in Geoscience from Montclair State University in New Jersey, USA. Since 1999 I've worked within various sectors including private, government, and academia in 8 countries spanning 3 continents.
